Mother Nature never fully revealed herself to me until I moved to the Midwest four years ago. That's when my comfort zone was pushed to new limits, especially in the depths of Winter. The training wheels were removed after the first year and she tested my optimism with a -34º arctic wind. "Stay home today," my wife tempted. I shook my head no and added extra layers before departing. Nothing was going to stop me from the full experience. I passed the test and became fully Iowan on that record-setting day. My secret?
