Creating a Masterpiece

Behind every great musical composition or high achievement in life, you will find thousands of hours of basics.  For me, these daily blog posts are an important step in order to complete the ultimate goal, a published book.  It is often the basics that most people overlook as they pursue lofty goals.

When I studied the piano, I hated the repetitive part of playing scales.  Without a strong understanding of the musical notes, how can you expect to ever play a complicated song?  Professional athletes are always returning to the basics.  They attend training camps before the season starts.  Sometimes, the general public is invited to observe these training sessions, just as you are invited to be a part of my "spring training" on this blog.

Don't underestimate the importance of training as you discover what your unique gifts are.  Spend time on the basics every day so that you can prepare yourself for the masterpiece you were born to create.  Do not let any obstacle stop you from creating your unique contribution.  Remember, whether it is music, sports, writing, parenting, or any other important part of your life, without daily practice, you will never achieve your full potential.  Decide what you were created to do in this world and then commit to it.  Do the daily "scales" so that you can complete your masterpiece, then share it with the world.  It all comes down to practice, practice, and more practice...do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do...
