Humans cannot reproduce unless there are two. The same is true throughout the animal kingdom. The older I get, the more I realize how the power of two helps me in almost every area of my life.
I have great empathy for the single parent trying to do his or her best to raise a family without the power of two. The same is true in the workplace. We encourage new hires to buddy up. This makes learning easier.
Jesus undertood the power of two when he was with us two centuries ago. It would have been entertaining to observe the interactions of the apostles when Jesus asked them to go out into the world in pairs. Peter, the one who had the keys to the kingdom, may have tried to split everyone up to cover twice as much territory. He would have sacrificed accountability and destroyed everything Jesus started.
