Sizing Up the Enemy

Goliath was one of the most formidable enemies of his time. He dared others to stand up to him. He appeared unstoppable.

When young David approached him with only a sling and a few stones, Goliath laughed. David remained focused and undaunted. He sized up his opponent and believed that he would defeat him. The one thing that separated David from everyone else was his ability to "size up" the bigger Giant that was standing right behind him. When God is behind you, every obstacle that you face becomes much smaller. David knew that the Giant behind him was no match for Goliath.

Even though you cannot see God, He is always there. As long as you have faith, you can win any challenge. Do not worry about sizing up the problems in front of you. The Giant behind you is all-knowing and all-powerful. He will give you exactly what you need to win your battles. If that happens to be a sling and a few stones, trust that it will be all you need to bring down Goliath.

As you prepare to fight your battles today, take three weapons with you, faith, hope and love. Even though hope is the theme for this year, the greatest of the three is love. With God behind you and these three weapons with you, any enemy you size up will appear small enough to defeat.
