Who is the Holy Spirit?

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high. ~ Luke 24:49

The Bible talks about an advocate who will remain forever to guide us.  Jesus says He forgives us for turning away from Him, however, rejecting the Holy Spirit will prevent us from entering the Kingdom of Heaven.  Let's look at Mark 3:28-30...

Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven all their sins and all the blasphemy they utter. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, but is guilty of an eternal sin. He said this because they [the Pharisees] were saying, ‘He has an evil spirit’.

When Jesus died for our sins, He opened the doors to the gates of Heaven.  The door may be unlocked, however, it's hidden and we need some sort of treasure map to find our way.  Jesus knew we would struggle to find our way, so He gave us a present.  He sent the Holy Spirit to help us find our way back to Jesus.  Rejecting the Holy Spirit is like throwing the treasure map into the fire.  Without a guide, we are lost forever.

Do you remember the first time your mother told you not to touch the hot stove?  You didn't listen and you got burned.  The Holy Spirit is that voice inside you telling you not to touch the hot stove.  When you listen, you stay out of trouble.  Ignoring the voice leads to trouble.

Perhaps there was a time in your life when you possessed this sacred treasure map. Then, something happened and you became distracted.  You lost the map and your life lost it's meaning.  You decided to try and find your way without your guide. Your life fell apart.

Do yourself a favor and tell Jesus you are sorry for all the times you touched the hot stove.  Tell him you are sick and tired of getting burned.  Ask Him to give you back the treasure map.  Hold on to the map all the days of your life.  Without the map, you will never find the door to Heaven.

Along the way, you will encounter others who are lost.  It's easy to recognize them because their fingers are scarred from touching the hot stove repeatedly.  Jesus wants you to share the map with them.  The tiny voice you hear will show you how to share the map so these lost souls will be inspired to follow.
