May the 4th Be With You

Difficult to see: always in motion is the future – Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back

Today is a great day to be a science fiction fan, especially if you are a Star Wars fan.  I stood in line to be one of the first to see Star Wars in 1977 while in my junior year of high school.  The original movie, Star Wars, was later renamed Star Wars: A New Hope.  This is fitting because, in the beginning, there were low expectations for success so the film was given a low budget.

In a parallel universe, Star Trek, created by visionary Gene Roddenberry, barely made it to season three prior to cancellation one month shy of my 10th birthday.  Network executives never really grasped the hunger fans like me have for science fiction.

May the 4th be with you.  May you live long and prosper.  Have a great day.
