It’s going to happen sometime—the next storm.
Maybe it will come from nature.
Maybe it will come from a place deep within—a conflict, a crisis, a heartbreak.
It might be something you never saw coming and something completely out of your control.
So how does one prepare?
I’ve come to see my life as a series of storms. Each one is its own classroom. Rather than live in fear of what’s ahead, I try to focus on what I’m learning in each downpour. I’ve made it a practice to seek the lesson.
Some of you have been with me through some of those difficult, frightening storms. You didn’t panic. You didn’t run. You stood beside me with wisdom—often hard-earned from your own seasons of testing.
Recently, someone close to me faced what looked like a tsunami. Survival seemed unlikely. We were shaken and felt unprepared. But then—almost unexpectedly—the storm passed. The skies cleared. Sunny days returned.
Others in my circle haven’t been so fortunate. Some storms take longer to pass. Some are part of the final exam. And we don’t leave this life until we’ve completed what we came here to learn.
As for me, I’m doing my best to build on every lesson. I’m doing my best to say thank you to those who show up when the clouds roll in. And I promise to do my best to be there for you, too—when the next storm heads your way.
Let’s help each other hold steady.
May today be full of peace, preparation, and gratitude.
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze."
— Isaiah 43:2
He never promised life would be storm-free—only that He would never let us face it alone. Have a great day.
