Do You Reach Out Even When the Odds Are Slim?

Stardate: 11.1.2025

Good morning, friends.

Today I want to share a story about courage, integrity, and hope — even when success feels uncertain.

Some time ago, I reached out to a senior contact at Paramount about including the Vulcan hand gesture in a future edition of my book, Live Long and Prosper. Out of respect for the rights holders, the first edition was published without it. But the gesture is more than a symbol — it’s a blessing for readers, honoring Leonard Nimoy’s legacy and Spock’s Jewish heritage.

I carefully crafted my message, explaining that the gesture represents peace, empathy, and divine blessing — values that echo the heart of my work. I shared that all proceeds from the book continue to support the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Then, with humility, I asked for guidance on who could help make this possible.

Sending the email felt like stepping into the unknown. My heart raced a little, knowing the odds of success were uncertain. Yet, I reminded myself that the act of showing up with integrity and hope is already a step forward. Sometimes, planting a seed is more important than controlling the outcome.

Captain’s Addendum

Spock: “Michael, based on probabilities, the chance of a favorable response is minimal.”

Bones: “Spock, the chance of integrity and respect paying off is unlimited — you can’t calculate that.”

Spock: raises an eyebrow “Emotionally illogical… yet compelling.”

Bones: “Exactly. Sometimes faith trumps logic.”

And as I reflect on their banter, I realize that the boldest steps aren’t about guaranteed success — they’re about showing up with courage, honesty, and hope.

Scripture Reflection:

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” — Proverbs 16:3

Today, consider the small acts of courage that honor integrity, bless others, and walk faithfully with God. Even when the outcome is uncertain, your boldness, respect, and heart can ripple in ways you may never see.

Live long. Prosper in purpose. Walk boldly in divine love.

🖖 Captain’s Note: “Our calling is not to write perfect words, but to reveal perfect grace through imperfect moments.”
