"It's the end of the season for tourists and most of the places are closed on Mondays" the man behind the desk explained at the visitor center in Galena, Illinois, just across the Mississippi river from Dubuque. I knew I hit the jackpot because that meant we could explore the area without the crowds that normally flock to the place rich in history. We loved our family visit so much we stayed until sunset, the best time for capturing photos and memories. The photo you see in today's story was shot in Grant park not far from the Ulysses S Grant residence within walking distance of the park.
If you want to take a stroll back in time, visit the Dubuque/Galena area and stop by the visitor center. Don't go on Monday unless you don't mind that part of the town is asleep. Have a great day.
