A couple of weeks ago, our men’s 55+ team proudly represented Iowa at sectionals. We came heartbreakingly close to our first-ever finals appearance, only to be edged out by a couple of super tiebreakers. It stung, but it also reminded us of something important: we belong on that stage.
Now, many of those same teammates are lacing up again as we head to Springfield, Missouri next week for another big showdown. This time, the dream is to go all the way in the Mens 40+ age group. These guys are fierce competitors — they don’t give up, and I’ll be ready to do my part when my number is called. My goal is simple: give my absolute best.
I’m especially grateful to my team captain, Jim Sichterman, who took the time to help me strengthen my backhand. His pointers have already made a real difference in my postseason play. It’s amazing how a small adjustment, guided by someone who believes in you, can unlock new confidence.
Since many teammates are tied up with a local tournament today, there’s no official team practice. Instead, I’m heading to 8 a.m. cardio tennis for my final prep. It’s one last push before the road trip begins.
Our dream is not just about winning matches — it’s about advancing together, as a team, all the way to nationals. There is great value in teamwork, in supporting one another, and in striving for something bigger than yourself.
Keep us in your thoughts as we head south to Springfield. The journey continues, and the best may be yet to come.
Have a great day!
