We knew something was out of the ordinary when we noticed a large gathering of police cars and fire trucks with their lights on. As we approached, I noticed they were all standing at attention facing our plane. The flight attendant announced, "ladies and gentleman, please remain seated during our military escort." The passengers were hushed as a young man in his dress blues stood up, gathered his belongings, and departed.
On my way off the plane, I asked a flight attendant if everything was okay and she told me a fallen airman was being escorted home. The experience moved me to tears.
