You're on the fence. Some days you wake up and feel a sense of freedom. Other days are different. You wake up feeling trapped. There are warning signs you are in captivity. Recognizing these signs and taking action may help you gain your freedom.
Before I get too far, keep in mind that you may be a victim. There are outside forces fighting hard to hold you hostage. Please don't blame yourself. The first sign of captivity is your thoughts. If they are centered around helplessness, you may already be a prisoner. Another sign is that your daily routine never changes. Not ever. This is like some kind of computer program and you are frozen in time. No Bueno.
Take a good look around you. Who are you spending most of your time with? Are they good role models? They may be playing a role that reinforces your own captivity. You can test this by sharing a new goal with your friends. If they scoff or put you down, you are definitely in captivity.
If you see the writing on the wall and recognize you are in captivity, congratulations. You have taken the first step to freedom. You may not have to go so far as Andy did in the Shawshank Redemption, but you do need to make a plan to bust out. Change the programming in your head. Make new friends. Seek a relationship with the Creator. After all, Jesus is the champion of redemption. Give prayer a try. Have a great day.
