Leonard Nimoy, the actor who portrayed Spock, wasn't allowed to look up during the blessing offered in his synagogue which is rooted in a hand gesture Aaron, brother of Moses, offered to his people, a symbol of blessing. Everything changed when Jesus entered the scene. Jesus opened the eyes of the blind. Jesus inspired us to look up. He took away our shame. Not only are we to "Live long and prosper," as Spock says every time he raises his hand, we are to live forever as children of God.
We celebrate the most important birthday of all times tomorrow. Make sure you look up at sunrise and give glory to God, the one who created us in his image. This is the greatest gift of all. Remember that when you greet others. Keep in mind that every time you raise your hand and offer the most famous hand gesture that changed the world, you are offering a blessing.
