The moment we have been waiting for happens tonight at 6:30 pm at City Hall in Williamsburg. There is no doubt the community wants outdoor pickleball courts at city-owned property where the rec center is located. The elephant in the room tonight is funding. Lowering taxes is a hot topic and the state has done a masterful job of cutting taxes in recent years. Sounds like a great idea, right? This also means reducing city budgets. The majority of members in the newly formed Pickleball Iowa County Club want free access to the pickleball courts. Who is going to foot the bill for this project and who is responsible for the upkeep?
There is a win-win solution. I call it OPM – other people's money. Some of this money is actually outside of Iowa county. The city will be asked to contribute the land for the four outdoor pickleball courts. Volunteers on the fundraising committee will be tasked with finding OPM. The discussion tonight will be spirited. Stay tuned. Have a great day.
