My team of volunteers involved in the Caveman Miracle Network will be led by one of my day job teammates, Tina, who has volunteered to oversee the collection of donations from my book sales. Tina currently serves as Lions Club president, a position she has held since 2018. She joined the Lions Club because she wanted to give back to her community, especially since her family needed outside help when she was a little girl. Tina started a flag program because it shows the pride of being an American and supporting our troops. She is the driving force behind the hundreds of flags flying throughout neighborhoods on major holidays.
If you want to know what makes Tina tick, it's the thought of the loss of her husband who passed away suddenly over one year ago. Her husband, John, was her soulmate. The two met when Tina was a Schwan's ice cream driver. It was love at first site. John was her rock, her life. John pushed Tina to work out every day harder and harder. He pushed her when the couple raced jet skis. Tina was the first woman to place on the podium in a men's class at the world finals in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Tina and John were unable to have children and that's a main reason why Tina does so much to help kids. Iowa City kids benefit from the kids site sponsored by the Lions Club. Tina told me she has bold goals to raise money at our day job for Children's Miracle Network in the month of May. In addition to her efforts to enlist businesses for donations at our day job, Tina will assist me with my own year-round projects. The Caveman Miracle Network is tasked with selling books and donating 100% of the proceeds to the local children's hospital. Tina and I have been teammates at our day job for many, many years. We often team up to educate the people we serve.
Thank you, Tina, for volunteering your expertise. Your resilience dealing with the loss of your husband, the loss of your horse, and the loss of your cat, all in the same year, amazes me. I appreciate all you do for the community we serve, especially for the sick kids at the hospital. Welcome to the team, Tina. Have a great day.
