Have You Ever Seen Upside Down Clouds Like These?

When the air is sinking rather than rising and moisture is prevalent, you may get to see mammatus clouds like the ones pictured here. All I can say is my weather-related vocabulary has greatly expanded since arriving in Iowa eleven years ago.  While derechos and polar vortexes can be dangerous, mammatus clouds are relatively benign unless perhaps you're flying through them.

Once again, the family is marked safe from the fast-moving storm that hit us near the end of the day yesterday.  I captured this photo at the end of the shift.  Stay tuned for more nature shots.  Have a great day.
