Lately, it feels like the world is cracking apart at the seams. You don’t have to look far to see it—politics, religion, race, gender, even within families. There’s so much noise, so many sharp edges. We disagree, we divide, we distrust. But the thing that troubles me most isn’t just that we’re divided—it’s how we’re becoming more volatile, more suspicious, more willing to cut people off entirely.
And I can’t help but wonder:
What if we’re fighting the wrong enemy?
Paul, the apostle who once hunted Christians before becoming one, saw this coming. In his letter to the Ephesians, he wrote:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” – Ephesians 6:12
Paul wasn’t being poetic—he was warning us. He knew that behind the arguments and cultural clashes, behind the anger and the outrage, lies something darker: unseen forces that feed on chaos, whisper lies, and push us to see one another as enemies. These spiritual powers don’t care about our political parties or denominational lines—they just want to divide us enough that we forget we’re all God’s children.
Division is a tool. And we’re all vulnerable to it.
But here’s the good news: we don’t have to play along. We can wake up to what’s really happening. We can put on what Paul called the “armor of God”—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word—and stand firm not just in our beliefs, but in our love.
We don’t have to agree on everything to honor one another.
We don’t have to shout to be heard by God.
And we don’t have to let darkness write our story.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the noise, I want to encourage you to take a step back and ask: Is this person really my enemy, or am I being tempted to believe they are? Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is to listen. To extend grace. To pray for discernment.
Paul saw the real battle, and he wanted us to see it too—not so we’d live in fear, but so we’d live with purpose. Have a great day.
