If you're serious about achieving financial freedom, I have an idea for you. Why not write a letter to your future self to be opened on the day you eliminate your debts? There are three important components to include:
- The date – Be realistic. Determine how long it will take to pay off all your current debts. This may be the most important part of your letter. If you go too easy on yourself and pick a date too far off you may not ever open the letter. If you're too harsh, you may give up on debt reduction because it's too painful.
- The body – Include your feelings about why financial freedom is important to you and your future self. This part of the letter will keep you motivated to stay on track.
- The signature – Your signature is your commitment. It's your promise to your future self you will do everything in your power to achieve financial independence.
